In submarine cable constructions, manual handling of the following operations is difficult.
1) Cables burial for protecting them from damages by fishing activities etc.
2) Repair of already buried cables in a shallow water area
3) Cable laying and repair in a deep water area
For these operations, various facilities including robots such as an autonomous underwater vehicle(AUV) and a remotely operated vehicle(ROV) are used.
In Kokusai Cable Ship Co., Ltd.(KCS), the autonomous underwater vehicle, AQUA EXPLORER2000(AE2000) is used not only for the submarine cable installation and maintenance, but also for a wide range of surveys on power cables, pipelines, fishery resources, sea life and the environment.
